Don't call it Tex Mex!

El Mero mero translates to "the head honco". So they switched it up a bit and called it El Mero Taco, meaning the taco is the best of the best. I can certainly vouch for that claim because they have some of the best tacos you can find in the city. I would have to say their fried chicken taco is the Michael Jordan of tacos.

Owners Jacob and Clarissa Dries have been running the El Mero Taco food truck since September of 2015, which is surprising because of their already huge following in such a small amount of time. They are very engaging so don't be afraid to have a chat with them. Jacob is originally from Memphis and went to culinary art school in Austin, TX. There he met Clarissa and it was a match made in food trucking heaven! After seeing the huge food truck movement in Austin, they decided to head back to Memphis when the city passed the food truck ordinance.

The food is where the real magic lies. The blending of the locally sourced vegetables (Woodson Ridge Farm of Oxford, MS) is amazing. I'm no fan of squash, but i love it on the chorizo taco. I can't choose what i like most. It's a 3 way tie between the brisket quesadilla, fried chicken taco and the Chilaquiles verde. There's more than just tacos as well. The street corn is to die for and everyone must try their smoked cheddar grits, which are locally sourced from Hanna's Farm in Luxora, Ark.

Also, ask about the secret menu!!!

I want to thank El Mero Tacos for letting me take over their truck and experiment. Also a very special thanks to Shawn with KCutta Productions for the incredible video work and editing.
