I took the 3.5 hour drive down Highway 78 to Birmingham to Legion Field to see the Memphis Tigers take on the Tigers of Auburn University. The game wasn't pretty and neither was the weather, but the Tiger faithful showed up and cheered for the home team. While the Tigers of Memphis didn't win, the experience was still incredible. Also, the Auburn fans probably broke the record for successful crowd waves. It literally went on for the entire 3rd quarter.
Not to throw shade at Legion Field, but being there made me really appreciate the Liberty Bowl Stadium. Not that it was a terrible stadium, but front row seats don't exactly give you the best views of the game. Also, no one was enforcing seating assignments. It was pretty much a free-for-all. Nevertheless, the game was good......if you are an Auburn fan. It wasn't Memphis' best game, but they did show they could at least hang with the SEC for at least a half.
Here's a few shots from the game.
and a little video....
It was a good day despite the rain and Memphis losing. I'm 99% sure it was QB Paxton Lynch last game as a Tiger. New team and new coach next year. Hopefully they can keep the buzz going.
