Chef Michael serves up some of the best Southern inspired cuisine in the city. 3 words, Lobster Pronto Pup! Trust me, you’ll thank me later.
It's the best of both worlds, the simplicity of a Pronto Pup and the awesomeness of lobster, and the housemade mustard is simply amazing. I could put it on any sandwich or simply drink it. Can't go wrong either way.
I recently got the opportunity to visit Rizzo’s Diner, the flagship restaurant of South Main. This has always been a place i would normally recommend to anyone looking for a nice place to take a date or have dinner. Rizzo’s definitely gives off the feeling of South Main mixed with the decor of upscale diner.
Chef Michael is originally from Ohio. 18 years ago he was recruited from Cincinnati to work in the then Elvis Presley's on Beale St. In 2011, The original Rizzo's Diner opened. It was located on GE Patterson, but they quickly outgrew the 8 table, 32 seating building and moved to the current location on 492 South Main near the Civil Right's Museum.
If you’re anything like me, you’re probably wondering what’s up with the name Rizzo’s? Is it an Italian restaurant? Actually, it isn’t at all. I will let Chef Michael’s explain the meaning of the name…..
I really enjoyed my experience at Rizzo's, especially the conversation with Chef Michael. He's very social and that's a great thing. It really shows that he cares immensely about not only the food he prepares, but about the experience each patron has. Due to some technical difficulties, i wasn't able to recover all the pictures of the interior, but believe me when I say, it's truly impressive. The diner has the setup of a New York or Los Angeles trendy restaurant.
I recommend Rizzo's for anyone that's looking for a great place for a date or to have dinner before a show at the Orpheum. It's also a great spot for a cocktail when strolling down South Main. Maybe if you want a nice lunch where you can sit down and enjoy some great food, i recommend the Brisket Po Boy or the Cheeseburger soup. Rizzo's also has brunch on the the weekends from 11-3. Get the Blackened Catfish Eggs Benedict!!
