The Memphis Tigers football team was beaten by the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers in the Boca Ratan Bowl with a final score of 51-31. It was a sad way to end a season of many highs and lots of excitement.
There's a silver lining in this loss. Several actually.
The transition from Justin Fuente to Mike Norvell was pretty smooth. The high octane offense was intake and the defense, while not as good as last years, was pretty good. the future looks bright with Norvell. Let's just hope he's here a bit longer Fuente and doesn't see Memphis as just a stepping stone job.
Also these Tigers far exceeded anyone's preseason expectations. They weren't supposed to even make a bowl game and these scrappy Tigers went out and won 8 games. They won some games didn't shouldn't have and lost some as well. They held their own down in Oxford until the bottom fell out in the 4th.
So be proud of these Tigers. They made the best of what they had and came away with 8 wins and a bowl game. Making consecutive bowl games used to be a dream and now it's our reality the last few years. The future looks very bright.
