Ok, so I had a great weekend and I'm paying for it severely this morning. I think I walked about 20 miles total over the weekend! I pretty much wore a nice hole in the soles of my shoes, but it was so worth it! I got the chance to attend Memphis Brewfest that was held at Autozone Park. You know that cool place where the Memphis Redbirds play. The weather was great for being outside and enjoying a nice cold beer, what more could you ask for?
BrewFest happens to be one of my favorite Memphis events, not only because I have a love for beer, but because it's for a great cause. Drinking for a cause is definitely something I can get behind! Memphis Brewfest donates all net proceeds to Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy in an effort to find a cure for muscular dystrophy.
Here's a little background on my this is so important; Duchenne muscular dystrophy is the most common fatal genetic disorder diagnosed in childhood. The gene for Duchenne is found in the X chromosome, so it primarily affects males. That's really big! It affects males across all races as well. There's currently no cure for Duchenne, but due to events, like Memphis Brewfest, the research and educational efforts can continue until one is eventually found. So to all those who attended, volunteered and participated, you are really making a huge contribution to a great cause! Beer is really an amazing thing!
All in all, this is one of the best Memphis annual events that also is for an even better cause. I encourage you to go check out EndDuchenne.org for more about muscular dystrophy and ways to help in this great fight! We have to save the boys! I would like to thank the all the staff and volunteers of Memphis Brewfest, the Memphis Redbirds and all their staff, and everyone who participated in this awesome event. Here are a few shots of the event!
