So it's Monday and you have to think of a great date idea for someone you've just met or someone you already know. What do you do? Well you actually have quite a few options in Memphis.
So Monday was also my good friend Emily's birthday!! Everyone tell her Happy Birthday! We decided to go have a drink, but we got into a discussion about my date theory.
My theory is about the possibility of actually pulling off a successful $40 date. My theory is that the first date should be more about getting to know a person and not trying to impress them with an expensive outing. It's completely possible to have an amazing $40 first date. Why $40? Well, it's not a huge amount to sacrifice if this first date ends up being the last date.
First stop: Automatic Slims
Our first stop was to Automatic Slims on 2nd. Every Monday, starting at 5pm, the have Martini Monday!! Martini Monday consists of $4 martinis!! See where this is going?
We each had 2 martinis and a order of Buffalo fries and an order of Buffalo Chicken Egg Rolls. The bill came out to $35 and some change. I rounded the tip out to make it an even $40.
If this was a date, I would have reached the limit but this is where a walk up Main St becomes a great idea.
Second stop: Blind Bear Speakeasy
Blind Bear is one of my favorite bars in Memphis. It's my go to whenever I'm in Downtown Memphis and it's right on Main St. See how that just tied into the last stop? Yeah, stay with me. I got you covered.
So we decided to have a drink. Blind Bear used to have Margarita Mondays but it's now been replaced with Moonshine Mondays. So now it's $3 shots and $6 Moonshine mixed drinks. This goes down at 6 but prior to this they have happy hour pricing on well drinks and wine. We opted for 2 Whiskey and Sprites and a spot on the awesome patio! Total cost: $10
Stop 3: Agave Maria
A quick stroll to Agave Maria was the next stop. They actually have Margarita Monday! It's 2 for 1! They are normally $10 each but you get them for $5. So we got 2 each and I'm going to say they have one of the best margaritas you can get. We got a frozen and an on the rocks version and they were both great!
Total cost: $20
Walk down Main to stop 4:
So we decided to go to one last spot because at this point it was only 845. We decided to take a walk down Main St. Along the way we ran into a golden retriever puppy named Hank the Tank and he had a much bigger friend with him this time around.
Total cost: Free plus some laughs
Stop 4: SOB (South of Beale)
This was the last stop. They have specials all the time. We originally wanted the duck fried rice but decided to just chow down on their great popcorn. We each also had a glass of their strawberry-raspberry Sangria! It was so good!!!
Total cost: $14
And that was the evening!! We both made it back to our cars and to our own cribs safely. Now if you were keeping tabs you will notice I went way over the $40 initial amount.....or did I? I just gave you 4 separate dates and each where under $40! You just have to add your own flair to it. It could be a Redbirds game, concert, a comedy show, or just a nice walk. It's totally possible to pull it off and still have an amazing time getting to know someone or just spending time with someone you already know.
Remember these are mostly Monday things, so keep that in mind. I will do different days of the week as well.
Once again Happy Birthday to my insanely funny and cool friend Emily! I think my theory may become a law at some point!
