Today for the first time in a long time, I'm not so proud of my city. It takes so much for me to get to that point, but it's happened. I love this city more than many and I gladly take a lot of heat for that love. Last night, there were multiple shootings in the city. While Memphis isn't exactly a stranger to violence, last night was different. A 10 and 12 year old were both shot. The 10 year old did not survive. Also, a young man was shot while he was in route to the store and killed.

I'm all for the removal of certain statues and getting new leadership in elected positions, but these senseless violent acts are way more concerning and more frequent. I don't have a magic plan to help with the violence, but I just wish we all thought before making emotional decisions and value each other's lives a little more. I know that's not good enough for some, but again I don't have all the answers.

I want my city to be great. I want Memphis to shine, but we have to do better. The people that make up the city have to do better. It's going to take everyone working together. I pray for all the families that were impacted by these acts of violence on last night. You're in my thoughts and prayers.

Life is for Living,
