Memphis has another taco spot! That in itself is awesome because tacos are my absolute favorite thing to eat and having more options is always welcomed. When I heard Tennessee Taco Co was coming to the space Los Compadres once occupied, I was so excited for a different take on tacos.
The decor of this place is awesome. The huge mural and blue tones truly set this place apart. It's not like anything I've ever seen before. Think Festival of the Dead meets a huge box of crayons. There's plenty of space inside and outside. Speaking of outside, they have an awesome patio! What’s better than margaritas on a patio? Nada!
Ok, let’s get to why you’re really reading this article; the food. The first thing you have to understand is that there are literally 24 taco choices. Yes, we counted them. There could be more, but we got tired lol. With that being said, there might be too many choices. It’s not quite as bad as say a menu at Cheesecake Factory, but it took a minute to get through all the choices. For those that don’t eat meat, there are also plenty of vegetarian choices as well.
I settled on the Remember the Alamo and Gus’ favorite. The Remember the Alamo is shredded chicken with pico, jalapeños and queso while the Gus’ favorite is fried chicken with cheddar, bacon, pico and chipotle ranch. My daughter went with queso dip with a side of tater tots. That queso though!! It was awesome! There’s something unique about those tater tots. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but they taste different than other tater tots.
The Remember the Alamo chicken was very good. Like really good. Go for that shredded chicken! I will say that the red onions in the pico really took away from the tacos. There was just way too many and the chunks were really big. I found myself removing them because there were just too many. That was really my only knock.
I think Tennessee Taco Co is worth the visit. I’m going back to try more options myself. You can really never go wrong with tacos anyways. They are always awesome. Go check them out and tell me what you think. If you’ve already been, drop a comment and let me know what I need to try on my next visit.
