See that lady there? That’s my mom. Well, she just recently celebrated her 20th consecutive 29th birthday and still looks amazing! Just like Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, there’s more to that smile. Momma Bear has been through a lot. She gone from a life of stability to having her world flipped upside. TWICE!
She grew up pretty privileged in a very nice neighborhood in Memphis. Her next door neighbor was Isaac Hayes for Christ’s sake! Her first car was a freaking Plymouth Barracuda, which she crashed into the house. Good job mom. Fast forward to age 18 and she meets my Poppa Bear. A guy from the wrong side of the tracks that she falls for. Their story is seriously on the same level of the Disney’s “Lady and the Tramp”. Well in order to be with him, she had to leave her comfortable life behind. So what does she do? She packs all her things into paper bags and shows up at my dad’s mother house and never looks back.
Now if that ain’t love, I don’t know what is. It probably wasn’t the smartest move, but it paid off. My parents married a couple years later, had my sister then me, the greatest gift ever, then all my other sisters lol. No all my sisters are awesome, but always hogged the bathrooms. I’m rambling. Back on track.
For 38 years, this was my moms life. She was a wife to my dad and a mother to us. She paused her entire life and all her hopes and dreams to be with the man of her dreams. Just think of all the things you wanted to do at 18. They would probably include college, traveling, stunting on MySpace.
2 and a half years ago, my moms world flipped again. My father passed away. The saddest day of my life, but I never considered what my mom would be facing. For the first time in her life she had to pay her own bills, work a job to support herself, and be her own woman. That has to be the scariest thing ever. Your normal for 38 years just gone.
Well, Momma Bear has persevered and made a way for herself albeit with a couple stumbles. She has a new job she loves, she is moving into her own apartment soon, and she’s even using Uber so she doesn’t have to drive at night! We even got her using CashApp lol. Happy days! I’m so very proud of you Mom. I love you so much. So here’s to your new chapter. Happy 20th birthday young lady.
