We Do Mother’s Day A Little Different

Most brave the huge crowds to take their moms to a restaurant for Mother’s Day. Some buy mom a card or some gift she may or may not use. My sisters and I do things a little different on the day to celebrate mom. We turn the hell up!!!

Yes! We don’t do that typical boring Mother’s Day routine. We bar hop with mom and she loves it! It all started 3 years ago when we took my mom to a nice brunch and we had a lot of time after. My mom suggested another place to get another drink and the rest is history. It’s great to see my mom having a great time on her day. Well, as long as we monitor her drinks because that little lady will go beyond her limits lol. Here are a couple pics from out latest Mother’s Day Bar Crawl.

We started out at Blue Monkey then headed over to Pontotoc Lounge and ended at Tin Roof on Beale. Keep in mind we walked this entire distance lol. My mom had an amazing time and I love seeing her enjoy herself even if she did sit in some musician’s lap.

Do you do anything not typical on Mother’s Day? If so, drop me a comment and let me know!

Just another Sunday Funday

Sunday is for brunching! It's become a regular thing for me lately. I'm going on a mission to find some awesome brunch spots around the city. My plan was to try the newest spot, Watershed, but the line was crazy long and the parking wasn't very good. So I will have to attempt again later. I ended up hitting one of my favorite spots, Blind Bear, instead. Seriously, this place is like the show Cheers to me.

Their Hungover like a Bear brunch is awesome. $3 mimosas y'all! I had biscuits and gravy, which comes with eggs and bacon for $13. You get a lot of food for the price and again $3 mimosas! I tend to go for the man-mosa. It's a spin on the mimosa by adding vodka to the mix of champagne and OJ. It's definitely a drink for the seasoned brunchers out there that want to get that buzz quickly lol.

I can never just go to one spot on Sunday Funday. I have to go to 2 or 3 places before I can consider the day a success. I also have an insatiable sweet tooth. I had a nagging craving for cheesecake and the best I've had so far is from Aldo's. Yes, this pizza spot has amazing cheesecake! Also, their shrimp and polenta dish is to die for! Trust me on this and I believe it's only available at the downtown location.

Well that was my Sunday Funday. Next week will be a different spot. Any suggestions on places I must try? What are you favorite brunch spots? Comment or shoot me an email. Heck we can even brunch together!

Staff Meeting with Petey

So it's Sunday Funday and I wanted to get out and enjoy the brief sunshine before the downpour later. It's Musicfest, so that pretty much guarantees that it will rain. Not only rain but the bottom of the sky will open and unload upon Memphis.

Prior to this inevitable occurrence, I decided to have a staff meeting over brunch with Petey Geronimo, my soon-to-be 13 year old rat terrier.

We needed to go over the direction of the blog and also it was time for his evaluation. Petey has been in my life since he was 6 weeks old and he still hates taking pictures. This is totally not cool for a mascot, hence the meeting.

We took a trip to Rock'n Dough pizza, which surprisingly has a fantastic brunch menu. The most important thing is that their patio is PET FRIENDLY!

Man-mosas and Beignets

Man-mosas and Beignets

I like mimosas but I also like them with a bit of a twist. I go for what's known as the Man-mosa, which is your traditional champagne and OJ, but adds a shot of vodka. Trust me, it's the best thing to have for brunch.

The beignets were to die for also.

Rise and Grind with cheese grits

Rise and Grind with cheese grits

I had the Rise and Grind sandwich with I substituted sausage for bacon with cheese grits. The sandwich was great! It has a basil mayo that's very good and flavorful. The cheese grits were equally good and oh so cheesy! (No pun intended)

Petey was the star of the day. All the staff of Rock'n Dough came out and played with him or snuck him a bit of food from the kitchen. He basically solidified his mascot status today. He's lucky, he was going to get fired today! Lol.

It was a great brunch........

Then it started raining and we were both sad to leave. Until next time Rock'N Dough!!! We will definitely be back!

We aren't very happy about the rain
