It's only Thursday??

It felt like a Friday, but it was only a dream. I was on s mission to hit 3 events in 1 night. It went a little something like this!!

First up was the Sushi Jimmi VIP Party. I love Sushi Jimmi! He was the first person to let me do a review of his food truck and I'm forever grateful for that opportunity. I've come a long way since then, but Jimmi has always been very cool and supportive.

Sushi Jimmi and I!!

Sushi Jimmi and I!!

Sushi Jimmi has hands down the best sushi you can get in Memphis. Yes I said it and I will accept any sushi challenge any day! His passion and attention to detail is uncanny. I have no clue how he does it.

The party was great and lots of people showed up to show support. I even saw Holly Whitfield of ILoveMemphis blog and Angie Steele there!

Next stop of the evening was to Memphis Slim House to see a discussion panel put together by one of the dopest guys I've ever met, Eso Tolson. He's the guy behind the Spectacular Venacular. I really want one of those prints on my wall!!

The panel featured some awesome people discussing their art and how they came to be and what motivates them to continue. I love seeing local Memphians doing positive things!! It's so inspiring!!

Last stop was to the same spot I went Tuesday and I'm in no way ashamed about it!

I had to some to LBOE for their Beat the Clock Thursday special!! $1 beers starting at 8 that increase 25 cents each 15 mins. Its a challenge I accept gladly!

I decided to go with the Ghost River Gold last night. It was my first time having it. I'm normally a Fireside kinda fella, but change can be good. I enjoyed it along with the Voodoo chips I was snuck out lol.

The night ended with me having a debate with a guy at the bar about the buns of the LBOE burgers. He said they were too thick, but I think they are the perfect thickness to hold that huge burger.

Look who also stopped by LBOE!!

And that was my Thursday. 3 events in one night! Friday should be equally exciting!! Get out there and enjoy this weekend! Downtown will be a bit crowded due to the St Jude Marathon, but don't let that deter you.

Southern Hot Wing Festival Recap

Over the past weekend, I went to one of Memphis' biggest festivals; the Southern Hot Wing Festival! This is one of my favorites because well....hot wings! This event really brings out lots of people as well. It was prime for people watching, which is truly a Southern tradition, and it did not disappoint!

Over 50 teams were on site trying to win the $5000 grand prize and bragging rights of having the best wings you can have in the Mid-South. That's enormous pressure, but these teams were up for the task and brought the winning spirit and outrageous costumes to draw more attention.

This year's festival featured 3 stages for music and also a kids zone for the little ones. I was also pleasantly surprised that the festival was way more organized and able to handle the huge crowd this year. Past festivals were a bit over crowded and the vendors were less likely to hand out samples. I believe Memphians have finally gotten the memo that the samples aren't always free and some of the participants take donations for the Ronald McDonald House.

It was a really warm spring day, but that didn't stop the contestants or the spectators from taking part in the festivities. I walked the entire festival and I had to take several water breaks. It felt like Memphis in late July! I didn't let that deter me from enjoying myself. I don't think drinking a Tiny Bomb from Wiseacre on a hot day was the best idea, but it definitely wasn't the worst idea I've ever made either.

This brave soul decided to try 3 of the hottest wings they had! There was a 5 minute time limit and even if you finished early, you had to wait the full 5 minutes before you could drink any water! I never would have made it, but this kid actually did it! He did it in 3 mins.

The contestants really made this festival a success! They were all very friendly and very confident they had the best wings! I had to snap a few pictures of them, because they all brought their own unique charm to the festival and left a mark!

The Teams!

Disclaimer: I apologize if I left anyone out! It was not intentional! You all were awesome!

I had a great time at the Southern Hot Wing Festival and I was stuffed leaving! Thank you to Paul Gagliano for all their help and for organizing an incredible event, thanks to all the teams that came out, and thank you to all the attendees for making this event possible!! Great job Memphis!!!!

Little Italy Review with Dine01

The next stop on the Best Memphis Pizza in April with the guys of Dine01 was Little Italy! This small, local spot packed a mean pizza punch! I was so impressed by the pizza I got from Little Italy. I hadn't heard the best reviews of Little Italy, so I must admit I was a bit hesitant when I was asked to go by Justin.

We were presented with a Pepperoni, Buffalo Chicken and Meatball Parmingiana pizza. Justin had the pepperoni and I basically devoured the meatball parmingiana and buffalo chicken on site! I was really impressed with pizza as a whole. From the not not too soft and not too hard crust, to the slightly sweet sauce, and the ample toppings. It was a very good experience. I will say that the Buffalo Chicken was my favorite of the three, thought the meatball parmingiana wasn't very far behind.

This was one of the better pizzas that I have had in Memphis. I was equally impressed by the vibe inside Little Italy. It reminded me of what you would expect in an old Italian movie. I wouldn't have been very surprised if there was a few mafia bosses hanging out back eating cannoli (more on that later). It all really went very well together.

So before I left I had to have some dessert. I got a slice of Italian cheesecake, a cannoli, and some tiramisu. The cheesecake had a slight hint of lime that was really good. The tiramisu was so light and fluffy. It was delightful. Now let's get to the cannoli situation. It was literally one of the best I've ever had! Please try that cannoli!!

If you're in the mood for a great local pizza with a vibe of The GodFather and great dessert, please do yourself a favor and give Little Italy a try. Here's a video of the review I did with Justin Harrison of Dine01. You can also check out their other videos by clicking HERE

Little Italy is located at 1495 Union Ave at the corner of Union and Kimbrough Pl.

Memphis Black Restaurant Week: The HM Dessert Lounge

This week I will be covering Memphis Black Restaurant Week with another group of bloggers, Dine01901. You can check out their Youtube channel HERE. These guys do video reviews of restaurants around Memphis. I've dubbed this week as the Black Bloggers take on Memphis Black Restaurant Week.

Our first stop for Black Restaurant Week was The HM Dessert Lounge. This is Memphis' first and only dessert lounge. This spot is located at Madison and Avalon St in Midtown near Overton Square. Ran by Chef Fran Mosley and has already established itself as a staple on the Memphis food scene.

The first thing you'll notice when walking into HM is that there's a runway right in the middle of the place that also doubles as a dining table. It sets the place apart from any other place you'll find in the city.

It's the small details that make HM Dessert Lounge unique. From the trendy living room setups complete with floor lamps to the local artwork on display throughout, The HM Dessert Lounge is one of a kind and also a very welcomed addition.

Now for the moment you've been waiting for; the food!!!

Seared Salmon, Grilled Asparagus, & Orzo

Jerk Tilapia, Sautéed Cabbage, & Couscous

Sweet Potato Brownie

Peach Cobbler

I truly enjoyed my experience at The HM Dessert Lounge. The food was amazing. It tasted so much better than it looked and it looked fantastic! The presentation of the food was impeccable! There's always been a thought that Black owned businesses didn't have good service, but I must admit that this visit totally disproved that. Every member of the staff greeted us and was very helpful and it was before we even pulled out any camera equipment.

The Review

Dine01 and one901 team up to take on Memphis Black Restaurant week! Here's the first stop at The HM Dessert Lounge in Midtown!

I hope you get a chance to participate in Memphis Black Restaurant Week, but if not please make a trip out to HM Dessert Lounge. They also feature an outstanding brunch on Saturday. This is definitely a place that I would recommend to anyone wanting good food and an even better experience.

All smiles after that incredible meal with Chef Fran!!!
