I Took Matti Haapoja’s Challenge

Mane, I love YouTube! I really love YouTube! I literally learned everything about blogging, photography, and videography from YouTube. I know, it’s an insanely resource of knowledge. One of my favorite Youtubers, Matti Haapoja, issued a Solo B Roll challenge. The rules were pretty simple. Shoot a 1 min video featuring yourself without any help from anyone else. Seems simple right? Wrong!

This was the hardest thing to pull off. Do you know how crazy you look filming yourself? Lol. It didn’t go exactly as I planned but I made the most of the footage I did get. I also had to represent for the home town. I might not win but if Matti likes or comments, I see that as a win!

Here’s the video!

Also, my friends seem to think this could be a sneaker or Footlocker ad. Yo Nike holler at me!

I Got a Philly in Philly and Caught a 76ers Game!

That title made me chuckle a bit, but we are just gonna roll with it anyways lol. I got a real Philly cheesesteak in Philadelphia and I’m so excited! I was super happy when I found out that I was going to training in Philly and began looking for places to get a cheesesteak. The people up here literally argue about who has the best cheesesteak. It reminds me of Memphians arguing about who has the best BBQ. I ended up listening to my friend Will Weeks recommendation of a spot called Tony Luke’s.

A Thanksgiving I Will Never Forget

Thanksgiving. A day for family and to be thankful. While some don’t like the history of the day, I still see it as a great day to enjoy family and stuff your face. As I’ve grown older, I’ve grown to appreciate being around family and making memories. Which led to one of the best Thanksgiving Days ever.

Maddy and I take over Florida!

Maddy and I take over Florida!

My mom has never seen the beach in her life and really enjoyed seeing the images from my last stay at the Shores Resort and Spa in Daytona, Florida. So I did what any son would do. I bought my mom a plane ticket from Atlanta to meet me and Maddy in Florida for Thanksgiving! I really want to thank everyone over at Shores Resort and Spa for making this day possible! They were so accommodating and even left us a special gift in the room! #swag

Upon arrival we got a s’mores kit from the front desk and headed to the fire pits. This was my first time ever making s’mores and we failed miserably lol. Marshmallows roast fast as heck, but hey we tried. They still tasted better than they looked.

Waking up the next day proved to be a super challenge. Don’t set a time while on vacation. It will never go as planned!! Maddy refused to leave the bed. I got up early to check out the sunset and it was breathtaking! I recently bought a 16-35mm lens and it was the perfect lens for this trip.

We learned two very important things Wednesday. Disney World is very crowded on Thanksgiving and the tickets aren’t cheap. They were $129.....each! I love Disney like the next person, but those prices coupled with having to wait in line a minimum of an hour and supremely overpriced food, makes Disney not a vacation I would recommend  unless it’s something you absolutely have to do. We enjoyed our time, but after paying $409 after taxes for 3 tickets, we didn’t feel we got our money’s worth. That and we were only able to ride 1 ride.

We headed back to the hotel to change and hit the beach! My mom literally cried when she saw it. That was the highlight of the trip for me. Just seeing how happy she was made my entire year. I’m so glad I had the means and the opportunity to do this for her. Maddy, on the other hand, had to be dragged from the ocean each day. This little girl loves being in the water and on the beach.

This was just day one! I’m going to do a part two for the amazing brunch we had on Thanksgiving Day at Shores Resort and Spa. You’re going to go into a food overload! Trust me, it’s worth it.

Trapping out the Bandos Vlog #1

So I have a love for exploring and photography. I have recently gotten into making videos, specifically vlogging. I’ve tried before but I wasn’t very confident with my filmmaking and story telling. Now, I think I’m ready! Here’s goes nothing!

My latest vlog hanging with the amazingly talented Mia (@memorieswithmia) in an undisclosed abondined building! Check out the video and also Mia’s page!

A Family Shoot at Crosstown

Crosstown Concourse has pretty much become my second home lately. I’ve done countless shoots and visited the repurposed structure numerous times. I basically live there on the weekends. Whenever I’m approached by someone for photos, Crosstown is usually pretty high on their list for clients. When Quaneshia of According to Q blog contacted me about a family lifestyle shoot, I was all in! If I know anything about Quaneshia, it’s that when she does a shoot it’s for real and she already knows the looks she wants. Check out the dope tees they wore!

I moved some furniture around to create a living room and then we rocked it. Everyone showed up ready and even the little one was a natural! Here’s a recap of the session.

Urban Exploration in Downtown Memphis

Urban exploration, urbex, has become my therapy of choice lately. Just me, my camera, the city streets and my thoughts. I live a very busy life and I rarely take time for myself to unwind, so wandering around alleys and rooftops has become my outlet.  My mom always told me to stay out the streets, but I always end up back in them exploring. I guess I never listened.

Had to get the legal ish out the way! Here's a photo tour of my adventure.

All the way up!

All the way up!

Views of the Exchange Building. This was the very first rooftop I've ever been on. July of 2016. I just bought my camera and went to a photographer meet up. Best choice I made even though I was scared to death! God the photos from that day are terrible! Lol. Thank goodness for progression!

Memphis it's an extremely beautiful city that really shines when you have the time to take in the details. Of course it looks boring from 240. You have to get out and get lost before you start to see the little things.

I honestly never took the time to look at the city's seal. There's a riverboat and cotton in there! Given Memphis' history, it makes sense.

In all the times I've been in downtown Memphis, I've never in my life gone to City Hall. Ever! I kinda knew where it was, but never actual been close to the building. It definitely looks like it was built in the 60s or 70s. A refresh would be cool. Maybe with some cool exterior lighting.

A quick stop by the Peanut Shoppe always brings back memories of my grandmother. She would ride the bus to Easy Way on Main and we would always stop by the Peanut Shoppe. My dad would also take me there each time we were downtown and buy us rock candy. Great great memories.

I love the framing on this a lot!!

By this time I was hungry and lost in thoughts. What was I thinking? I honestly don't remember but it was more than likely about my life in general. This is where I put the camera down and just enjoyed the day. Can't always snap pics.

So what did I learn on this day? Always look both ways before crossing the street. I was almost hit a couple times.

Yellow Chair Project Recap

Recently I decided to offer mini sessions featuring a really cool yellow arm chair that I saw at Amurica. The whole concept behind this project was to take candid portraits while having the chair in random locations. Due to the weirdness of Memphis weather, we were forced inside. I decided to move the shoots to Crosstown Concourse, which features some of the best interior natural lighting. Another great thing about Crosstown Concourse is that each corner of each floor is totally different from the rest. Keeping each shoot unique was important.

Well, I've done way too much talking. Here are some of the images from this project!

I want to thank all those that trusted me to capture these images. They came from all walks of life and some had zero experience in front of a camera. I also had the pleasure of having an assistant for this undertaking and she was simply amazing. I also want to thank Jamie Harmon at Amurica for letting me use his chair for this shoot! You're the greatest!

A ballerina in the river

I recently took Maddy down to the "beach" area somewhere near Wolf River. No, I won't tell you how to get there. That's what exploring all about. Get out there and get lost! Anyways, I've been testing out my new Sony Zeiss 55mm 1.8 lens and decided this was a great place to snap a few pics. This is by far one of the sharpest lens I have ever used. The weather wasn't the best but we made the best of the beach, river and her tutu! Here are some photos from this little in town adventure.

Brief Time on Beale

After seeing The Break Up Show on last Saturday, I figured I would take a few pictures on Beale Street. Little did I know that my battery was dying in my camera. So I didn't make it all the way up Beale. So here's a quick few shots on the East side of Beale Street.
